If you buy gold or silver in Pakistan, you will hear two units in the same conversation: the tola and the gram. Rates are usually quoted per tola, international prices are quoted in grams and ounces, and bars are made in both. Knowing how to move between them takes the guesswork out of a purchase.
How many grams is one tola?
One tola is
11.6638 grams. The tola is a traditional South Asian weight equal to three eighths of a troy ounce, and it is the unit the bullion market in Pakistan still quotes every day.
Two more conversions are useful:
- 1 troy ounce = 31.1035 grams = about 2.67 tola
- 1 kilogram = 1,000 grams = about 85.74 tola

Turning a per-tola rate into a per-gram price
Rates in Pakistan are quoted per tola, so to get the price of one gram you divide by 11.6638.
Per gram = rate per tola ÷ 11.6638
For example, if silver is quoted at Rs 6,950 per tola, then one gram works out to roughly Rs 596, and ten grams to roughly Rs 5,959. The same method works for gold. Today's converted figures are always shown on the

Remember that a quoted rate is the rate for the metal. Bullion prices move with the international market through the day, so the final price of a specific bar is confirmed at the time of purchase.
